Riverside Park Revitalization Initiative

North Grenville, ON – The Municipality of North Grenville is delighted to announce the completion of several upgrades to Riverside Park. The Riverside Park Revitalization Initiative, started in 2019, has been designed to offer families, youth and seniors a more enjoyable and inclusive outdoor experience at North Grenville’s largest multi-use park.

The revitalization includes the opening of a brand-new, splash pad just in time for summer. The splashpad has a variety of interactive water features that promote safe and fun play, while ensuring kids and caregivers stay cool.

To enhance comfort and usability of the splash pad area, a shade structure will be installed in the park in partnership with Enbridge who selected North Grenville as its National recipient of community funds in 2021 on the heels of its Participaction accomplishment as Canada’s Most Active Community.

This structure will offer protection from the sun, making it easier for visitors to enjoy the park on hot days.

Earlier this year, North Grenville opened its first refrigerated outdoor rink as part of the Riverside Revitalization which will be repurposed this summer to include basketball nets, providing a versatile space for both winter and summer sports enthusiasts.

North Grenville is also proud to have installed accessible picnic tables, ensuring that everyone can enjoy picnics and gatherings with family and friends in a welcoming environment.

Further, a new multi-use pathway around the periphery of the park will be paved in early June, providing a dedicated route for walkers, strollers, those using mobility devices, as well as joggers, and cyclists. Along the pathway, benches and two fitness stations will be installed.

New lighting has been installed on the outdoor tennis/pickelball courts, and the BMX track was upgraded thanks to a partnership with Hurst Marina and MW Lawn and Snow.

Finally, the Municipality has transformed its aging 50-year-old pool house into a year-round facility with accessible and heated washrooms / change rooms, providing convenience and comfort for all park users, particularly those with mobility challenges.

Mayor Peckford expressed her enthusiasm about the project, stating, “The revitalization of Riverside Park marks a significant milestone for North Grenville. These new amenities have been in the planning stages for many years and seeing them come to fruition is incredibly rewarding. Revitalizing Riverside Park was a key motivation for me when I decided to run for Mayor as a mother of three young kids. I envisioned a community space that is inclusive, accessible, and vibrant, reflecting our commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all residents. As a council, we are thrilled to provide our community with a park that better meets their needs and creates a welcoming environment for everyone.”

Councillor Doreen O'Sullivan shared her excitement, stating, "The transformation of Riverside Park is a testament to our community's dedication to creating dynamic and accessible public spaces. These enhancements will not only provide a variety of recreational opportunities but also foster a sense of community and belonging. Like all of Council, I am proud to have been part of this project and look forward to seeing families, friends, and neighbors come together to enjoy all that Riverside Park has to offer. This revitalization truly reflects our commitment to improving the quality of life for everyone in North Grenville."
