North Grenville, ON - The Municipality of North Grenville is excited to announce the second annual Mayor for a Day contest. This unique event will take place on Wednesday October 16, 2024, and will provide the selected participants with an exceptional opportunity to engage with municipal politics and civic issues alongside Mayor Nancy Peckford and her Council.
Building on the success of the inaugural event in 2023, the Mayor for a Day contest aims to inspire and involve students from Grades 9 to 12 in shaping the future of our community. Participants are invited to submit their vision for enhancing North Grenville and propose actionable ideas to realize their vision. It is expected that two students will be chosen to serve as Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
“I am delighted to host the second Mayor for a Day event,” said Mayor Nancy Peckford. “This initiative offers young leaders a valuable chance to delve into municipal governance, engage with their local Council, and highlight the issues that matter most to them. It’s a fantastic way to encourage civic participation among youth and bring fresh perspectives to our community.”
The selected students will spend a day shadowing Mayor Peckford, engaging with senior staff and all members of Council, attending key meetings, and sharing their insights. They will also tour the Municipal Centre and other key facilities and have the chance to engage with local media.
Applications are being accepted until Tuesday, October 1st, 2024, at 11:00 am. We encourage diverse and dynamic youth to participate. For more details on how to apply, visit www.northgrenville.ca/Mayor4aDay.
