Mayor Nancy Peckford Issued the following statement on International Women’s Day:
As we mark another International Women’s Day, held annually on March 8, I am once again blown away with the incredible female leaders in North Grenville who enrich the quality of life in our community.
This year’s theme is “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress”, emphasizing the importance of creating an inclusive society and investing in women’s empowerment.
In North Grenville, we are fortunate to have so many women who actively contribute to the fabric and well-being of our community. Whether in business, the trades, education, health care, public safety and emergency services, the arts, recreation and sports, social services, they are making a difference!
We recognize their strength and resilience, and that amidst many challenges, they show up for themselves, their families and our community every day.
As women, it is sometimes tempting to believe that other women may be doing it better or have it easier, but I have come to realize that we all at one time or another struggle with self-doubt, too much on the to-do list, fatigue, and fear. This is part of the human experience.
At the end of the day, however, what matters is that we support and empower each other.
As we celebrate women’s achievements, let us also recognize that much work remains. We must continue to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes and create a community where every woman and girl feels empowered. It is also important to highlight the role many men play in elevating and supporting women, and raising sons and daughters who respect and celebrate the multi-faceted roles women play in today’s society.
To the women of North Grenville, thank you for your contributions to our community. On this International Women’s Day, let us renew our commitment to gender equality and improve the lives of all women and girls through cultural, legal, economic, and social change.
