The Municipality of North Grenville is pleased to announce that the Provincial Government has approved a joint funding application submitted by the Municipality and the United Counties of Leeds & Grenville to support crucial upgrades to County Road 43.
North Grenville will receive $1,087,300 from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, Rural & Northern Stream while contributing $222,700 which has already been set aside for this project.
North Grenville’s portion of the funding will cover sidewalks, pedestrian lighting, landscaping, and bike paths. The sketch depicts what the improved roadway will look like, including the location of the sidewalks and bike paths.
“These upgrades, which have been so very long overdue, mean a safer road and improved driving, cycling and pedestrian conditions for our residents and businesses as well as the tens of thousands of users who rely on this thoroughfare everyday”, said Mayor Nancy Peckford.
Council and staff understand that the rebuilding of County Road 43 will cause inconveniences for the travelling public, local residents and businesses. The Municipality, in conjunction with the United Counties, is committed to developing a detailed plan that will mitigate these inconveniences through regular communication and dialogue. This plan will describe mitigation measures, such as defining detours, outlining construction schedules, and providing information on access to affected businesses and residents.
“Municipal staff, in partnership with the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville Public Works Division, will engage with affected residents and businesses to ensure all associated contractors adhere to the agreed upon mitigation measures throughout the construction project”, added CAO Brian Carré.
It is expected that construction will begin in 2020. Anyone with questions regarding next steps in this infrastructure renewal project is invited to visit the Municipality of North Grenville website here (coming soon) or contact the Public Works department at 613-285-9569.
