• The proposed Multi-Purpose North Grenville Sports Dome Project will be a permanent, year-round, air support structure designed to never come down. The square footage of the facility will be 125,000 (500’ x 250’ x 75’ height). A 400'x75' skylight will be included.
• There will be an external brick and mortar 5500 sq. ft. clubhouse, connected by a weather proof passageway, including washrooms, change-rooms, a small party room/meeting room, offices and other support facilities.
• The dome includes a FIFA regulation sized soccer field which can be divided into smaller fields and used for a variety of sports.
• Another 35,000 sq ft inside the dome will be multi-sport hard courts, accommodating pickleball, tennis, volleyball, basketball, and badminton. A three-lane marked walking track on the turf field will encircle the perimeter of the facility.
• The site includes a 220+ space parking lot adjacent to the facility. 

Funding Request:

• The proposed Sports Dome, which would be the only facility of its kind between Kingston and Ottawa, will serve as a regional hub, accessible via two 400-series highways and located on the former Kemptville College lands. These lands (a 626-acre parcel) were acquired by the Municipality from the province at a cost of $7.7 million in 2018 upon the unexpected closure of the College by the University of Guelph. The location of the dome on readily serviced former College now municipal land leverages our vision for the Campus as a vibrant entity that serves a significant rural and urban population and complements ongoing educational investments at the Campus by several boards who serve a very large catchment area within and outside of North Grenville’s borders. The Municipality is already recognized as a central location within the region for professional development and student events, sports groups and businesses who draw from a sizeable regional footprint. 
  
  
• External funding for the Dome would enable the Municipality to build a state-of-the-art facility that can be fully utilized 12 months of the year by a broad range of users within a 150 km radius, largely rural and urban, and can also serve as an emergency gathering place if required. The Municipality fully expects to offset ongoing operational expenses through strategic partnerships with all four school boards, in addition to a highly varied group of sports, athletics, cultural groups and commercial enterprises that can attract regional tournaments, conferences, and training programs that will enhance already strong economic development.
  
  
• The Dome will enhance the Municipality’s ability to host large-scale events, further cementing North Grenville’s role as a crucial regional hub in rural eastern Ontario for education, sports, and recreation. With strong community support, strategic investment, and a commitment to sustainable growth, the Indoor Sports Dome will be a key pillar in North Grenville’s ongoing evolution as one of Eastern Ontario’s most dynamic and rapidly expanding communities.
  
  
• The Municipality of North Grenville is experiencing an unprecedented rate of growth, which accelerated during the pandemic and continues to this day. Over the past five years, North Grenville’s growth rate of 9 percent has outpaced the City of Ottawa, and the Municipality is projected to accommodate 50 percent of the total growth across the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville. This growth is significant, with North Grenville expected to increase its population by 16 to 25 percent in the next five years, driven largely by young families and seniors, who are the highest users of recreational facilities.
  
  
• Given this rapid growth, the Municipality is currently making substantial infrastructure investments to accommodate both existing residents and the influx of new ones. These investments include North Grenville’s major thoroughfare and bridge (County Road 43 - $10 million municipal expense) and North Grenville’s wastewater treatment center ($46 million municipal expense) which are imperative to sustain the community's development. While essential, they place significant strain on municipal resources and budget, further highlighting the value of external funding to ensure that the proposed Indoor Sports Dome can proceed in a region with extremely limited indoor recreational infrastructure.

Components which support climate action and environmental efficiency:

• Direct LED lighting (hanging lights) will be installed and use significantly less energy than the traditional bounce lighting (floor lights) which many domes currently use. The use of LED direct lighting represents notable financial savings.
• A 400’x75’ Skylight will be installed which reduces usage of electricity during daytime hours and offers some capital savings requiring fewer lights.
• A relatively unique feature of the NG Dome is a Talac Wind Sensor, which saves money/electricity because it reduces the use of fans.
• The Dome Membrane will have double bubble wrapped insulation because it is a permanent structure, resulting in lower heating costs.
• This type of insulation results in an R-10 rating for heat retention and it significantly reduces heat loss throughout the entire facility.
• The turf used for the field will be 58 ounce and not the 32 ounce type most domes in North America possess. This much higher quality of turf increases the product lifecycle by 2-3 years, particularly given the high volume of users expected within the facility. In addition to it's functional benefits, this turf plays better, feels better, and limits injuries (including concussions) due to much lower compaction.
