In this in-person workshop you will learn how to make a beaded pin for Red Dress Day which takes place on May 5, using a single needle picket fence beadwork technique. This technique is suitable for beginner or experienced beaders.
May 5 is National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit People in Canada. It’s also known as Red Dress Day. It’s a time when people of all backgrounds are encouraged to wear red helping to raise awareness. The red dresses act as a visual reminder of all the missing Women, Girls and Two-Spirits people.
The workshop is open to Indigenous and non-Indigenous participants alike. For non-Indigenous participants this workshop is offered as a culture exchange and learning opportunity.
The workshop is free, but a donation to the development of Mino-jichaag-mtigwaaki is appreciated. Donations can be made in person at the event or via our fundraising account here.
The workshop will take place at the North Grenville Municipal Centre in Meeting Room 2 upstairs.
