Background Information

North Grenville residents Warrant Officer Jason Ritchie and Petty Officer 2nd Class David Cox of the Canadian Armed Forces made a joint presentation to North Grenville Council in June of 2010 requesting that they be provided with a North Grenville Municipal flag to hoist at the entrance to Camp David Smith in Afghanistan during their tour of duty at the Base.

On the conclusion of their rotation the soldiers returned the flag to our community and formally presented it to Mayor David Gordon and Municipal Council during a special Flag Repatriation Ceremony held during the Regular Council Meeting of Monday February 14 2011.

A framed glass display case containing the flag is located in the Municipal Centre main lobby area above the entrance doors on the north wall along with a photograph and information plaque that is affixed to the east wall near the access doors to the Municipal Arenas.
